WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new macOS and iPadOS app that uses Project Catalyst.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on new software using Appleโs Appleโs Catalyst project, which allows developers to create one piece of software for iOS and have it ported to iPadOS and macOS with just a few clicks.
Itโs the latest company to transition to Project Catalyst and a sign that soon, for the very first time, we could see WhatsApp come to the iPad.
The report said: โHow does the macOS app look? Exactly like the iPad app we spotted some time ago. They have the same interface, but WhatsApp for macOS Catalyst will have some UI improvements: they are needed to use the app correctly on a desktop interface.โ
Thereโs no clear indication of if or when the new app will launch, but the fact Mark Zuckerberg hinted that an iPad app was coming suggests that weโll see it sooner rather than later, perhaps even before Christmas.
Speaking earlier in the year, Zuckerberg said: โYup. Itโs been a big technical challenge to get all your messages and content to sync properly across devices even when your phone battery dies, but weโve solved this and weโre looking forward to getting it out soon!โ
WhatsApp recently rolled out multi-device compatibility for the first time, allowing consumers to permanently log in on devices such as MacBooks and iMacs and access the same WhatsApp features theyโre used to.
